The ProdigyThe story tells of a woman named Sarah, a mother who predicts the behavior of her exciting little son that a wicked and possibly supernatural power has overtaken him. She may be afraid of the safety of her family, where Sarah must choose between the mother's instinct and protection and the urgent need to investigate what or causes his dark turn. Perhaps Sarah may need to look for answers in the past where there can be a compelling reason.

Critic Reviews of "The Prodigy"Globe and MailFebruary 08, 2019
McCarthy's film dips its toes into some stock scare tactics - the whistling tea kettle, the dark hallway, the creepy basement - while struggling to figure out whether it wants its third act to be a boring or bad-ass sort of bonkers-bananas.RogerEbert.comFebruary 08, 2019
McCarthy's direction is so sleepy that a number of key scenes fizzle out before they can pay off with the next big jump scare.New York Magazine/VultureFebruary 08, 2019
The film is cruelly well-made.New York PostFebruary 07, 2019
The latest in a long, increasingly lousy line of bloodthirsty kid movies...Toronto StarFebruary 07, 2019
Director Nicholas McCarthy and screenwriter Jeff Buhler could pen that aforementioned parental handbook for child demonic possession, since they blithely borrow from innumerable evil kid movies.Washington PostFebruary 07, 2019
[McCarthy] a filmmaker who recognizes that the buildup is more fun than the payoff, and he manages to generate suspense with seemingly little happening on the screen.Flickering MythMarch 05, 2019
The Prodigy is a forgettable, tedious horror film that few will remember come this summer.CinergéticaFebruary 22, 2019
An empty exercise that barely keeps itself standing. [Full Review in Spanish]Cine PremiereFebruary 22, 2019
Nicholas McCarthy needed to transcend the conventions to successfully mix genres. [Full Review in Spanish]Film InquiryFebruary 19, 2019
This is entertaining and all, but the movie is neither scary nor intriguing enough to transcend its cliches and redundancy.Crooked MarqueeFebruary 19, 2019
The Prodigy feels more like an absurd fantasy film than a horror flick.ChrisStuckmann.comFebruary 15, 2019
The emotion wasn't quite as earned as it should've been...but, for the majority of the run-time, I was impressed with the craftsmanship on display.
