    IT (2017)

Itnote is the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King's classic 1986 horror novel of the same name directed by Andrés Muschietti. The film tells the story of seven children as they are terrorized by the eponymous being, which exploits the fears and phobias of its victims in order to disguise itself while hunting its prey. The film will depict roughly half the book, focusing on most of the childhood events of the main characters. Set in 1989, the story begins when a young boy named George 'Georgie' Denbrough disappears after the sudden arrival of a mysterious clown named Pennywise. Georgie's older brother, Bill, is left distraught by his disappearance, and after an encounter with Pennywise, looks for the help of six other outcasts who have had similar encounters with the clown and its other forms. The seven work together to find out the truth about this shapeshifting creature - which they dub 'IT' - and see if they can rescue Bill's missing brother. The movie is an adaptation of the parts of the novel that are about the Losers as children, scheduled to be released on September 8, 2017. A sequel based on the parts of the novel about the Losers in adulthood (with flashbacks to their childhood) is in development, with one of the film's writers slated to return and a projected 2019 release date.

Good grief, use your eyes, people. As soon as you click 'play', all you need to do is hit the CC button to turn the subtitles off. No issue whatsoever with picture quality. As for the movie, it feels like great pedophile bait. I don't care about being called a 'hater', it means nothing anyway. It also wouldn't make me wrong. I liked the movie. Being able to think and use my brain, I still saw flaws with it, DESPITE liking it. If calling out flaws is being a hater, then whatever. Besides cussing kids (cause it's cool and "they're just words"), the effects were top-notch. Pennywise's first appearance in the sewer was great. Theeen every other instance of him showing up was just meh. The script felt extremely cringe in most parts and ... oh good, I get to see children making out. Seriously, a lot of this felt like the early stages of child porn acceptance. You even have a creep in the comments talking about how she was too hot for her own good. , OPEN UP.

The movie is not terrifying but blandly edifying; its scares, foreshadowed as if by telegram, are delivered less effectively than its life lessons.

Doesn't cut very deep and isn't very scary.

It's such a great performance that you wish Muschietti had eased up on the CGI and just let Skarsgård do the talking.

    Village Voice

Even those unfamiliar with the book might wonder why this kids-only manifestation of IT feels strangely toothless on the horror front.

    New York Magazine/Vulture
    September 08, 2017

This new It has more on its mind, and gives more body and voice to King's ideas of childhood anxieties and the corrosive power of fear.

    San Diego Reader
    September 08, 2017

Horror's power here does not come from monstrous imagery, but from the encounter with evil... Muschietti seems to miss that, going for teeth over terror from the get-go.

It makes me nostalgic for when I used to get scared by movies because I don't anymore... But man oh man, It captures how it feels to be a scared child.
