    A Little Princess

Sara Crewe is sent to live in a boarding school where her late mother attended while her father goes off to fight in the war. Even though being treated strictly by the severe headmistress - Miss Minchin, Sara still becomes popular among the school. • Critic Reviews of "A Little Princess"

    Chicago Reader
    May 27, 2011

The film uses studio resources to create an entrancing world both in New York and in the heroine's fantasies about India.

    Variety
    June 10, 2008

An astonishing work of studio artifice, A Little Princess is that rarest of creations, a children's film that plays equally well to kids and adults.

    Time Out
    February 09, 2006

An exemplary version of Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel.

    New York Times
    August 30, 2004

A bright, beautiful and enchantingly childlike vision.

    ReelViews
    January 01, 2000

It's not only suitable for consumption by those over age 10, it's actually enjoyable.

    Chicago Sun-Times
    January 01, 2000

Cuaron's version of magic realism consists of seeing incredibly fanciful sets and situations in precise detail.

    Antagony & Ecstasy
    September 18, 2013

One of the very best children's movies of the past quarter-century.

    TV Guide
    May 27, 2011

This new version of Frances Hodgson Burnett's children's classic boasts first-rate production values and a political sensitivity befitting the '90s, but it doesn't quite capture the magic of the 1939 Shirley Temple vehicle.

    Film4
    May 27, 2011

Cuaron finds the perfect style for this trusted formula; what could have been routine kids' stuff flourishes with his sure feeling for space, light and colour.

    Empire Magazine
    May 27, 2011

Soppy and girlish in the extreme, this should keep even the tiniest viewer rapt, while all too many adults may fall victim to an inexplicable bout of eye-watering long before the closing credits.

    Common Sense Media
    January 01, 2011

Wonderful movie of a lonely girl's triumph.

    Nitrate Online
    July 28, 2003

A truly captivating children's film that never got its due in the theaters.
