Born in Glasgow in 1956, Robert Paterson graduated from Glasgow University, where he studied English and Drama. He won a scholarship to study acting at the London Drama Studio.He worked in Scottish theatre, as well as in film, television and radio.He worked with the Citizens' Theatre's "Theatre About Glasgow" company, with the Brunton Theatre at Musselburgh, and with the touring company Winged Horse. He performed at the Glasgow Tron Thatre, Perth Theatre, and the Royal Lyceum in Edinburgh. He was a board member of Annexe Theatre Company.He wrote and collaborated with Mull Theatre director Alasdair McCrone on the monologue Consider The Lilies, based on the work of Iain Crichton Smith, and on a version of Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped; in 2007, he also wrote radio plays and the Rep's hugely successful Christmas show, Jack And the Beanstalk.As a film and television actor, he played the priest in Mel Gibson's Braveheart, and had parts in series such Taggart, Take The High Road and Rebus; on radio, he played a variety of roles.Robert Paterson joined the Dundee Rep ensemble in 2002.
