Jean-Christophe Jeauffre is an award-winning film director, a screenwriter and a producer, born in Paris, France. After completing French Conservatoire du Cinema in Paris, he made his first documentaries when enrolled in the Navy, before writing, producing and directing "Devil's Island", his first exploration/adventure film for television, in 2000. His latest feature documentary, "Passage to Mars" (theatrical US release 2016), received Best Picture Awards and nomination Known for his spectacular award-winning True-Life Adventures feature documentaries for television "Amazon Trek", "Whales of Atlantis", "100 Years Under the Sea " and for the creation, in 1991, of the Jules Verne Adventures organization, the Jules Verne Festival and the Jules Verne Awards. Career: After graduating in French literature, he joined the French Navy in 1990 for two years on aircraft-carrier Foch during the Lebanon war and joined the ship's news and documentary television production unit where he made his writer/director debut.In 1991, Jeauffre founded the nonprofit Jules Verne Adventures along with Frederic Dieudonne, in Paris, France. Dedicated to exploration, filmmaking and education, the organization is now based both in Paris and in Los Angeles. In 1992, Jeauffre launched the annual Jules Verne Festival, inaugurated by Jacques Cousteau. The Jules Verne Festival has welcome to the stage and celebrated the work of many distinguished personalities, including: George Lucas, Harrison Ford, Dr. Jane Goodall and James Cameron.In 1999 he developed a film production unit, the Jules Verne Films and Expeditions, to create a new concept of adventure documentaries involving action story-telling and real exploration, for television and theaters. Jeauffre's passion for exploration and for the sea took him to lead large budget film/expeditions around the world.From 1999 to 2017, Jeauffre wrote, directed and co-produced several films that have included "Devil's Islands", "Red and White" and a five-month expedition on the Atlantic and the Amazon on tall ship Belem leading to the acclaimed and award-winnings films: "100 Years Under the Sea", "Amazon Trek", "Whales of Atlantis", "Five Months On The Sea" - narrated by Academy Award winner Ernest Borgnine, Charlotte Rampling and Christopher Lee. Two fully illustrated books were also published after the expedition: L'expedition Jules Verne à; bord du Trois-Mats Belem, by Jean-Christophe Jeauffre,(Equinoxe Publishings In 2006).He co-wrote and produced the TV documentary "Explorers: From the Titanic to the Moon", starring producer/director James Cameron and veteran Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin.He wrote, produced, edited and directed "Passage to Mars", a feature documentary, with the support of NASA, narrated by Zachary Quinto, Buzz Aldrin and Charlotte Rampling. Released in theatres in the US (Oct. 2016), the film was awarded Best Picture in the three festivals it was presented in 2016 and 2017.
